Interview: Acidiun

Deathcore act from Uppsala in Sweden, Acidiun have been active since 2008, and so far the group launched an EP titled "9 Circles" in 2015, a few singles, and a debut full-length album "The Coalescence," which was released in September last year. Below is an interview with the band talking about the mentioned full-length release, and more.

Alright, first things first. Before we dive into all the music stuff, how's life?

Life’s good for everyone, we’re all developing our personal lives and we’re all working full time or studying full time beside the band. Although we’re still able to make music and perform!  We try to meet up as often as we can to just chill out as well. That is a very important aspect for us, to remain close friends.

Speaking of new music, you have an album. What can people expect from “The Coalescence”?

You can expect an album that reflects ten years as a metal band. There is a blend of everything in this record and even if you might not understand it the first time you listen, give it another go and we know that you’ll find riffs and transitions that you as a metal fan will enjoy! Expect both real heavy and groovy riffs, growling vocals all the way through, high, mid and also low gutterals. If you’re looking for breakdowns you’ll find them and if you’re looking for some music that doesn’t follow the standard formula, do enjoy!

What was it like working on the album?

The working process of making the album was a long process, we started out by creating a story that made sense to us as a band and after that we started writing the songs and lyrics. We had to push ourselves to develop our song writing. It was hard but also very enjoyable, even though we got on each others nerves sometimes it always lead to development. Working with people for a long time can be very infuriating but also so fantastic when you hit that sweet spot when the song turns out just the way you wanted it too.

We’ve worked on the story as a whole together even though the basics of drums, guitars and bass were written separately and vocals added afterwards. We worked it out to make it flow as envisioned. The music we put together was something that sounded a lot like we wanted it to sound like without caring what other people what other people thought.

Are there any touring plans in support to “The Coalescence”?
Indeed there are! Of course we want to play live in as many places as possible, every bands dream is to tour all over the world and so is ours. We don’t have any plans for the immediate future but plans are in the making and we are excited to tell you about them as soon as we can.
While we are on the subject of touring, what countries would you love to tour?
We certainly would like to play everywhere that we possibly could but a more realistic answer would be that Germany, the UK and other countries in Europe would be a dream come true. If you want us to come and play, let’s make it happen!
Who and what inspires you the most?

We can't really say that a certain person or band inspires us but what inspires us is making extreme metal music that people can like and enjoy. We’ve also always had a vision of us being a live band more than a studio band so we’re inspired to write music that people can mosh to!

What other genres of music do you listen to? Have any of the other genres you listen to had any impact on your playing?

None of us listen to the same music really, we all like metal as a whole but we’ve got a mixed sense of genres, even in metal.

Some of us likes pop, funk or heavy metal classics while some of us like progressive rock, gangster rap and so on.Though when it comes down to metal we all like to create the same kind of music.
I really appreciate you giving us your time today. Is there anything else you would like to tell us and the fans before we wrap things up?
We are beyond grateful to our fans and to you guys for letting us talk about our music. Keep your eyes open because we have some new stuff coming out sooner than later. Give ‘The Coalescence’ a listen and take the time to follow us on social media where we update frequently!
